From HERA to the LHC

چکیده
Some personal comments are given on some of the exciting interfaces between the physics of HERA and the LHC. These include the quantitative understanding of perturbative QCD, the possible emergence of saturation phenomena and the Colour-Glass Condensate at small x and large Q2, the link between forward physics and ultra-high-energy cosmic rays, and new LHC opportunities opened up by the discovery of rapidity-gap events at HERA, including the search for new physics such as Higgs bosons in double-diffraction events.

Heavy Quark Production at Hera and Its Relevance for the Lhc
The import of HERA data on heavy quark production for LHC experiments is discussed. Knowlegde of all aspects of the beauty and charm production process, viz. the parton density functions of colliding hadrons, the hard scatter, and the fragmentation of the quarks into hadrons, can aid LHC experimentation. This short write-up concentrates on possible influences HERA data can have and on the curre...
متن کاملJet physics at HERA, Tevatron and LHC
In this short report, we discuss the Jet Physics results and perspectives at HERA, Tevatron and LHC. The different accelerators are complementary as shown in Fig. 1, where the kinematical plane in (x,Q) is displayed (x and Q are respectively the proton momentum fraction carried by the interacting parton and the transferred energy squared carried by the virtual photon). HERA allows to reach very...
متن کاملA review of forward proton tagging at 420m at the LHC, and relevant results from the Tevatron and HERA
We review the theoretical and experimental motivations behind recent proposals to add forward proton tagging detectors to the LHC experiments as a means to search for new physics. We also review the current diffractive programs at the Tevatron and HERA, focusing in particular on measurements which will have a direct impact on the case for forward detectors at the LHC.
متن کاملDiffraction at HERA, the Tevatron and the LHC
In these lectures, we present and discuss the most recent results on inclusive diffraction from the HERA and Tevatron colliders and give the prospects for the future at the LHC. Of special interest is the exclusive production of Higgs boson and heavy objects (W , top, stop pairs) which will require a better understanding of diffractive events and the link between ep and hadronic colliders, as w...
متن کاملARIADNE at HERA and at the LHC
I describe briefly the status of the ARIADNE program implementing the Dipole Cascade Model and comment both on its performance at HERA, and the uncertainties relating to the extrapolation to LHC energies.
